201106 Inxiweni Bible Club Report
REPORT ON KGM INXIWENI BIBLE CLUB
Term 2 June 2011
The number of children attending the club varies from week to week. There have been as few as five and as many as about sixty – the latter as a result of teacher encouragement to learners to improve their English. There is always a weekly element of surprise. However, there is a small core of regular attendees. These are mostly in Grade 5, about 12 years old.
At the Bible club we sing, pray, learn from a Bible story and read God's word together. Verses pertinent to the lesson are pinned on a board and read together. Sometimes there is a hand out related to the lesson to take home.
The children pick up the tunes of songs very easily (even though I teach them unaccompanied), so we sing songs having a good gospel, doctrinal content. They have learned some of the words by heart, so we sing these as we walk to the gate after the club. I have found the medium of song to be a good teaching tool and intend to use it more in future.
Progress has been slow but real. I see the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who attend regularly. The behaviour/manners of the children have improved – there is a calmer atmosphere. The time period of their concentration has increased and at times they are really gripped by the story. There is a softening of attitude.
Practically, the children can, with help, look up Scripture verses in the Bible. Answering of questions has improved as has their general knowledge of the Bible. Their reading skills have improved.
Prayer would be appreciated for the following:
- That God would convict the children of sin so that they see their need of Jesus as their Saviour – there is much self-righteousness
- That those who think they are Christian and are not will realise this
- That God will call and draw His elect children to Himself
- That I may have God's wisdom in teaching His Word clearly and accurately
Visitors are always welcome and well received.
